Overview

Registered in 1988 by E. Smith and the British Hosta and Hemerocallis Society, 'Kingfisher' is a small blue-green hosta derived from the *H.* Tardiana Group. Its distinctive foliage consists of broadly ovate, heavily textured leaves with a pronounced blue cast and narrow, pale margins, borne on compact mounds.

In the Garden

Reaching approximately 11 inches (28 cm) in height and 22 inches (56 cm) in diameter at maturity, 'Kingfisher' forms a dense, low clump suitable for the front of shaded borders, rock gardens, or troughs. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and small woodland perennials. Its compact habit also makes it an excellent choice for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Like most blue-leaved hostas, 'Kingfisher' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; regular monitoring and appropriate barriers are recommended in typical hosta-growing zones.
