Overview
Registered in 2005, 'King of the Hill' is a giant hosta of unknown parentage, with *Hosta* 'Galaxy' as its pod parent. It is distinguished by its large, heavily corrugated, broadly ovate leaves that display a complex variegation of blue-green, dark green, light green, and golden yellow, with heavily rippled margins and a very shiny upper surface.
In the Garden
'King of the Hill' reaches a mature height of 36 inches (91.4 cm) and a spread of 23 inches (58.4 cm), with upright foliage. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. Its substantial size and bold leaf texture make it effective as a specimen plant or in mixed shade borders, where it can be paired with ferns or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable.
