Overview
Registered in 2002 by P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Kifukurin Hyuga' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown parentage distinguished by dark green leaves with irregular chartreuse margins that develop traces of creamy white. The ovate leaves are slightly rippled, moderately twisted and folded, with a slightly shiny upper surface and very shiny underside, creating a textured, upright clump.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a stately, upright clump reaching approximately 33 inches (84 cm) in diameter and 17 inches (43 cm) in height, with a slow to medium growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hostas, and its late flowering habit extends the season of interest into late summer. The medium size and good texture make it suitable for border fronts, shade gardens, or as a specimen in mixed woodland plantings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from deer and monitor for slug damage, particularly on the shiny undersides of the leaves.
