Overview

Registered in 2003 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Squash Casserole', 'Key Lime Pie' is a large, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with wide, heavily rippled, greenish-yellow margins. The broadly ovate leaves, reaching 11.5 inches (29.2 cm) in length and 9 inches (22.8 cm) in width, feature a dull upper surface and a glaucous bloom beneath, with 12 pairs of veins and a lightly corrugated, wavy texture.

In the Garden

'Key Lime Pie' forms a dense, mound-like clump 23 inches (58.4 cm) tall and 60 inches (152.4 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border or as a specimen in partial to full shade. Its substantial size and bold foliage pair well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast in texture or color. The green scapes, reaching 33 to 39 inches (83.8 to 99.1 cm), produce lavender flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
