Overview

Registered in 2009 by P. Scolnik and introduced through the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Kelly' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Krossa Regal'. This medium-sized cultivar is distinguished by its heavily corrugated, grayish blue-green foliage with slightly rippled margins and a shiny upper surface.

In the Garden

'Hosta' forms a semi-upright to upright clump reaching 24 inches (61 cm) in height and 44 inches (112 cm) in diameter. Its broadly ovate leaves, 9 inches (23 cm) long and 6 inches (15 cm) wide with 11 to 12 vein pairs, provide substantial texture in shaded borders. The blue-green coloration pairs well with yellow- or gold-leaved companions such as *Hosta* 'Sum and Substance' or *Carex elata* 'Aurea'. Its upright habit suits middle positions in mixed shade plantings.

Care Notes

Grow in average, well-drained soil in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones. Water regularly during dry periods; apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs may damage foliage, particularly in wet seasons; deer are known to browse this cultivar.
