Overview
Registered in 2007 by L. G. Jones, *Hosta* 'Keepsake' is a small-sized cultivar derived from an open-pollinated cross with *Hosta* 'Fascination' as the pod parent. It is distinguished by its nearly round, dull-surfaced leaves that display a medium green center with gold margins, separated by an intermediate zone of grey-green that creates a subtle tri-color effect.
In the Garden
'Keepsake' reaches a mature spread of approximately 24 inches (61 cm) and a height of 9 inches (23 cm), with upright foliage and a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and is well-suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings due to its compact size. Its small stature and muted leaf colors pair effectively with fine-textured companions such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, avoiding waterlogged soil, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Keepsake' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and employ control measures as needed.
