Overview
Registered in 2008 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Undulata Erromena', 'Kathy's Clown' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its tricolored leaves: a yellow center with a dark green margin that features a light green inner edge. The broadly ovate, slightly rippled leaves exhibit light corrugation and some puckering, with a slightly shiny surface on both sides.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms an upright, moderate-growing clump reaching 25 inches (63.5 cm) in height and 21 inches (53.3 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical for hostas with light-centered foliage. With its medium stature and three-color leaf pattern, it serves as a useful accent in mixed shade borders or as a specimen in woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The cultivar is noted for better-than-average substance and is not prone to slug damage or melting out, though standard deer precautions are advisable in areas with high deer pressure.
