Overview
Registered in 2004 by L. Hottovy, this medium-sized hosta arose from seed of unknown parentage obtained from Walden West. It is distinguished by its green leaves with pale yellow, slightly rippled margins, a color combination that remains notably pale in the margin throughout the season.
In the Garden
'Hotsy Tottsy' forms a mound-like clump reaching 24 inches (61 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and its broadly ovate, lightly corrugated leaves with 10 vein pairs provide textural contrast when planted near finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras. Its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. As with most hostas, this cultivar may be browsed by deer and is susceptible to slug damage, particularly on the slightly shiny leaf surfaces.
