Overview

Registered in 2002, 'Hottie' is a medium-sized hosta cultivar derived from a cross between an F-1 seedling of *Hosta* 'Galaxy' (pod parent) and *Hosta hypoleuca* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its heavily corrugated, ovate leaves that display a blue-green center with unstable streaking in shades of dark green, blue-green, greenish yellow, yellow, and golden yellow, all set against slightly rippled gold margins.

In the Garden

'Hottie' forms an upright mound reaching approximately 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, with a slow growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, as is typical for blue-green hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size and substantial leaf substance make it suitable for border fronts or shaded beds, though its slow spread limits its use as a rapid ground cover.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season to establish roots. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, corrugated leaves offer moderate slug resistance, though standard slug control measures may still be warranted in damp conditions.
