Overview

Raised from a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Sea Prize' and registered in 1998, 'Hot Diggity Dog' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its upright habit and green leaves that mature to golden yellow with wide, creamy white margins. The foliage is slightly rippled at the edges and bears a cordate base, with leaves reaching 7 inches (17.8 cm) in length and 6 inches (15.2 cm) in width.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a clump 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter and 15 inches (38.1 cm) tall, with a slow growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the leaf centers develop their golden yellow coloration without scorching. The upright habit and medium stature make it suitable for the middle of a border or as a specimen in a mixed shade garden; it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Hot Diggity Dog' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in gardens where these pests are prevalent.
