Overview
Registered in 1999 by J. Hadrava, *Hosta* 'Honey Hill Water Ladle' is a giant cultivar derived from a cross between *Hosta* 'Galaxy' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Elegans' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its large, blue-green leaves with medium green margins, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a glaucous bloom on the underside.
In the Garden
This slow-growing giant reaches a mature diameter of 36 inches (91.4 cm) and a height of 30 inches (76.2 cm), with an upright habit. It is best suited to partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its substantial size makes it a strong specimen plant for the middle or back of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; regular monitoring and appropriate barriers may be necessary.
