Overview
Registered in 2003, 'Honey Hill Pinking Shears' is a small hosta cultivar resulting from a cross of two unnamed seedlings. Its most distinctive feature is the combination of blue-green foliage with prominently serrated, crimped leaf margins, which gives the leaf edge a pinking-shear appearance.
In the Garden
This compact cultivar reaches 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and spreads to 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with an upright growth habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other small woodland perennials. Its small size and neat form make it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, glaucous leaves provide moderate resistance to slugs, though monitoring is advisable in damp conditions.
