Overview

Registered in 2003 by breeder Kent Terpening, *Hosta* 'Honey Hill Blue Blood' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its intensely blue-green, very shiny leaves with a pronounced glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The leaf color is the cultivar's most notable feature, persisting well into the growing season.

In the Garden

'Honey Hill Blue Blood' forms an upright, medium-fast growing clump reaching 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 41 inches (104.1 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade with consistent moisture, typical for blue-leaved hostas. The broadly ovate, moderately corrugated leaves with slightly rippled margins and cordate bases provide textural contrast when paired with finer-textured perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*. The 28 to 35 inch (71.1 to 88.9 cm) scapes bear lavender flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide regular water during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage; appropriate management measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
