Overview
Registered in 1997 by M. Zilis as a sport of *Hosta* 'Elegans', 'Homestead' is a large, upright-growing cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with narrow, medium blue-green margins. The leaves are slightly shiny on the upper surface and dull beneath, with cordate bases and 14 pairs of veins.
In the Garden
'Homestead' reaches a mature diameter of 27 inches (68.6 cm) and a height of 21 inches (53.3 cm), with leaves 10 inches (25.4 cm) long and 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide. Its upright habit and slow growth rate make it suitable for shaded borders, woodland gardens, and as a specimen plant in partial to full shade. Pair it with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its blue-green foliage.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Homestead' may be susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing in typical hosta-growing zones.
