Overview
Registered in 2005 as a sport of *Hosta* 'On Stage', 'Hollywood Lights' is a tetraploid giant distinguished by its large, yellow leaves with wide, flat, green margins. The leaf blade measures up to 14 inches long and 10 inches wide, with 15 to 16 vein pairs, and exhibits a broadly ovate shape with a cordate base and folded surface; the top is dull, while the underside is slightly shiny. This cultivar is notable for having a wider green margin than its parent.
In the Garden
'Hollywood Lights' forms a substantial, mound-like clump reaching 43 inches in diameter and 23 inches in height, with a moderate growth rate. It is best suited to partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones, where its large, bright leaves provide strong contrast against darker foliage. The plant's size makes it an effective specimen or background element in shaded borders and woodland gardens; it pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or repellents.
