Section classIII-1

Overview

Registered in 1995, this medium-sized hosta is a sport of *Hosta* 'Holly's Honey' (used as both seed and pollen parent) and is distinguished by its blue-green foliage with dark green, heavily rippled margins that create a distinctive "piecrust" edge. The leaves exhibit a slight shine on the upper surface and a glaucous bloom beneath, with cordate bases and 9 to 10 vein pairs.

In the Garden

'Holly's Velvet Piecrust' forms a mound-like clump reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green coloration and textured leaf margins are most pronounced, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The dark green scapes rise 40 to 48 inches (101.6 to 121.9 cm) above the foliage, bearing lavender flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
