Overview
Registered in 1987 by R. Benedict, *Hosta* 'Holly's Shine' is a medium-sized variegated cultivar derived from a self-cross of *Hosta* 'Holly's Honey'. It is distinguished by bright green leaves with slightly ruffled margins and a very glossy upper surface, a trait referenced in its cultivar name.
In the Garden
'Holly's Shine' forms a clump 15 inches (38.1 cm) tall and 26 inches (66.0 cm) in diameter, with leaves 8 inches (20.3 cm) long and 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide bearing 6 to 7 vein pairs. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size suits mixed borders or woodland gardens but is not recommended for containers due to its mature spread.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the glossy foliage.
