Overview
Registered in 1997 by P. Ruh, 'Hirao Supreme' is a large hosta with variegated foliage of unknown parentage. Its most distinctive feature is the combination of light green, slightly rippled leaf margins with a dull upper surface and a very shiny underside.
In the Garden
'Hirao Supreme' forms a substantial mound 38 inches (96.5 cm) in diameter and 20 inches (50.8 cm) tall, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its large leaves make it suitable as a specimen or accent plant in shaded borders. The scapes reach 28 to 34 inches (71.1 to 86.4 cm) in height.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs may damage the foliage, and deer will browse the leaves in typical hosta-growing zones.
