Overview
Registered in 1985 by R. Savory, 'Hilda Wassmann' is a small hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its dark green leaves with white margins and its compact, mounding habit.
In the Garden
'Hilda Wassmann' reaches a mature height of 13 inches (33.0 cm) and spreads to 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for small hostas, and pairs well with other shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns, heucheras, and small woodland plants. Its compact size makes it suitable for container cultivation, rock gardens, or the front of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed as needed.
