Overview
Registered in 1995, 'High Wire' is a small hosta cultivar of unknown parentage, distinguished by its gray-green leaves with heavy, rippled margins and a dull surface texture on both sides. The variegated foliage, combined with a compact, mound-like habit, makes this cultivar visually distinctive among small hostas.
In the Garden
'High Wire' forms a dense mound reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its small size and compact form make it an excellent choice for container cultivation, rock gardens, or the front of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, 'High Wire' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed in the garden.
