Overview

Registered in 2005, ‘High Tide’ is a medium-sized hosta cultivar distinguished by its broadly ovate, blue-green leaves with glaucous bloom on both surfaces and flat, cordate bases. The leaves measure 7 inches (17.8 cm) long by 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide, with 10 vein pairs, and the plant produces dusty lavender scapes reaching 16 to 21 inches (40.6 to 53.3 cm) in height.

In the Garden

‘High Tide’ forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump reaching 38 inches (96.5 cm) in diameter and 13 inches (33.0 cm) in height at maturity. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where its glaucous foliage retains color. Suitable companions include ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials; its medium size makes it appropriate for border fronts or woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, ‘High Tide’ is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor foliage for signs of feeding and take protective measures as needed.
