Overview
Registered in 2004 with parentage unknown, 'High Noon' is a large hosta cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with broad, flat yellow margins. The plant produces unusually large yellow leaves on very tall petioles, creating a dramatic upright form.
In the Garden
'High Noon' reaches 36 inches (91.4 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate and upright habit. Its large, cordate leaves—11 inches (27.9 cm) long and 9 inches (22.9 cm) wide—feature 16 vein pairs, a dull upper surface, and a glaucous bloom beneath, with light corrugation and waviness. The scapes rise 30 to 40 inches (76.2 to 101.6 cm) tall. This cultivar performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its substantial size makes it unsuitable for containers.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. 'High Noon' is susceptible to slug damage, particularly on new foliage, and may require protection in areas with high deer pressure.
