Overview
Registered in 2002, 'High Heels' is a giant hosta cultivar resulting from a cross between a *Hosta* 'Dorothy Benedict' seedling and *Hosta nigrescens* 'Elatior'. It is visually distinctive for its tall, upright vase-shaped habit, large blue-green leaves with heavily rippled margins that display unstable streaking in light green, medium green, greenish yellow, and yellow.
In the Garden
'High Heels' reaches a mature diameter of 43 inches (109.2 cm) and a height of 35 inches (88.9 cm), with scapes extending 36 to 40 inches (91.4 to 101.6 cm) tall. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and its upright form makes it suitable as a specimen or accent plant in mixed borders. Due to its giant size, it is not appropriate for container culture.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, glaucous leaves provide moderate resistance to slugs, though standard slug control measures may be needed in damp conditions.
