Overview

Registered in 2009 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Halcyon', 'Hervester Flamme' is a small, slow-growing cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with wide, flat margins of ivory white to cream yellow. The leaf center variegation is notably prominent, and the plant produces light violet scapes that rise only 6.3 to 7.9 inches (16.0 to 20.1 cm) high, causing the flowers to bloom among the foliage rather than above it.

In the Garden

With a mature spread of approximately 25.6 inches (65.0 cm) and a height of 9.8 inches (24.9 cm), 'Hervester Flamme' forms a compact, mound-like clump suitable for the front of a border or rock garden. Its small size and slow growth rate make it an ideal candidate for container cultivation. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-green hostas, and pairs well with other small shade perennials such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protection from slugs and deer may be necessary, particularly on the tender white leaf margins.
