Overview
Registered in 2000, *Hosta* 'Heavenly Constellation' is a large, fast-growing cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Breeder's Choice' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Maekawa' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its upright habit, blue-green leaves with heavily rippled margins, and a glaucous bloom on the leaf undersides.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a substantial clump reaching 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter and 42 inches (106.7 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage and heavy leaf rippling are most pronounced. The tall scapes, reaching 44 to 48 inches (111.8 to 121.9 cm), bear streaked flowers. Given its large mature size, it is well suited as a specimen or accent in shaded borders and woodland gardens, pairing effectively with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. It is not recommended for container cultivation due to its size.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard hosta precautions apply: protect from deer and monitor for slug damage, particularly on the broad, rippled leaves.
