Overview

Registered in 1988 by Walters Gardens, Inc., *Hosta* 'Heaven Scent' is a large, sport-derived cultivar distinguished by its dark green leaves with broad, irregular margins that transition from yellow to chartreuse as the season progresses. The leaf blades measure 10 inches (25.4 cm) long by 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide, with 10 to 11 pairs of veins, and the mature clump reaches 34 inches (86.4 cm) in diameter and 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height.

In the Garden

'Heaven Scent' performs best in partial to full shade, where its variegated foliage maintains contrast without scorching. The substantial clump size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border, paired with ferns or *Astilbe* for textural contrast. Its scapes, which can reach 30 inches (76.2 cm) in height, bear pale lavender flowers in midsummer, adding vertical interest.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer deterrents are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
