Overview
Registered in 2015 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Heather' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its heavily ruffled, very shiny blue-green leaves with dark green, deeply wavy margins. The ovate leaves, which reach 8 inches (20.3 cm) in length and 4 inches (10.2 cm) in width, exhibit a glaucous bloom on the undersides and a pointed tip, creating a textured, reflective appearance in the garden.
In the Garden
This mound-forming hosta reaches 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter at maturity, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its glossy foliage and pronounced ruffling are most visible. Suitable companions include ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials; its medium size makes it appropriate for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While typical hosta-growing zones apply, the heavily textured leaves may be less appealing to slugs than smoother cultivars, though standard slug management is still advisable in damp conditions.
