Overview

Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Hearts and Flowers' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H.* 'Zany Janie' as the pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its broadly ovate, medium green leaves marked with white margins and occasional streaking, combined with a heavy leaf substance and lightly wavy, rippled edges.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter and 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hostas, and its substantial leaves make it suitable for border fronts or as a groundcover specimen. The heavy substance and wavy margins provide textural contrast when paired with finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. The heavy leaf substance offers some resistance to slugs, though standard preventive measures are recommended in damp conditions; deer may browse foliage in typical hosta-growing zones.
