Overview
Registered in 2000 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Gold Edger', 'Hawkeye Gold' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by green leaves with gold margins. The leaf blade is dull on both surfaces, measuring five inches long and four inches wide, with eight vein pairs and a cordate base; the margins are greenish-yellow to golden-yellow and slightly rippled.
In the Garden
'Hawkeye Gold' forms a dense mound reaching twelve inches in height and thirty-six inches in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins remain brightest, and is well-suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as edging along pathways. Its compact size makes it an excellent candidate for container culture, and it pairs effectively with other small hostas, ferns, or shade-tolerant perennials such as *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Hawkeye Gold' may require protection from slugs and deer in garden settings.
