Overview

Registered in 1997 by P. Ruh, 'Harvest Desire' is a small-sized variegated hosta derived from a cross between *Hosta longipes* (pod parent) and *Hosta kikutii* (pollen parent). The cultivar is distinguished by its medium green leaves with slightly rippled margins, a very shiny surface on both sides, and a tapered leaf base.

In the Garden

This hosta forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 13.5 inches (34.3 cm) in height and 19.5 inches (49.5 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade conditions typical of hosta-growing zones, and its small size makes it appropriate for rock gardens, container plantings, or the front of shaded borders. Companion plants may include ferns, heucheras, or other small woodland perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. While slug and deer resistance is not documented for this cultivar, standard protective measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
