Overview

Registered in 2000 as a hybrid of *Hosta* 'High Noon', 'Harriette Ward' is a large cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with golden yellow, heavily rippled margins. The foliage is slightly shiny on the upper surface and dull beneath, with cordate leaf bases and 17 pairs of veins.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches approximately 40 inches (101.6 cm) in height and 55 inches (139.7 cm) in diameter at maturity, with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of most hostas, where the gold margins remain most vivid. The substantial leaf size and bold variegation make it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders with ferns and astilbes.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, it may be susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing in garden settings.
