Overview
Registered in 1999 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Tambourine', *Hosta* 'Harmonica' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its greenish-yellow leaves with creamy white, slightly rippled margins. The leaf blades measure 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and 4.75 inches (12.1 cm) wide, with eight pairs of veins and a flat base.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a fast-growing, mound-like clump reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or as a groundcover under deciduous trees. The greenish-yellow leaf centers with white margins provide contrast when paired with darker-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
