Overview
Registered in 1995, this medium-sized cultivar results from a hybrid involving *Hosta hypoleuca* as the pod parent. 'Happy Valley' is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with wide, streaked green and white margins that are slightly rippled, combined with a glaucous bloom on the leaf undersides.
In the Garden
'Happy Valley' forms a semi-upright clump reaching 27 inches (68.6 cm) in height and 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf color and white margins remain most stable. The substantial leaves and upright habit make it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders, pairing well with ferns, heucheras, and other medium-sized hostas.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season to establish a deep root system. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may cause damage, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
