Overview
Registered in 2014 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Orange Marmalade', 'Happy Dayz' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its unusual reverse coloration: a dark blue-green margin surrounding a variable center of bright yellow to parchment. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) long and 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) wide, bear 10 to 11 vein pairs and exhibit a dull upper surface with a glaucous bloom beneath.
In the Garden
With a mature spread of 26 inches (66.0 cm) and height of 12 inches (30.5 cm), 'Happy Dayz' forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump suitable for the front of shaded borders or woodland gardens. Its small stature and compact habit make it an excellent candidate for container culture or rock garden pockets. The yellow-green scapes, reaching 12 to 16 inches (30.5 to 40.6 cm), carry flowers typical of the genus. Companion plants should share similar moisture and light requirements; fine-textured ferns or sedges complement its broad leaves.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Happy Dayz' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones; monitor foliage for signs of feeding.
