Overview
Registered in 2003 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Krossa Regal', 'Hairline Fracture' is a large, upright cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves edged with an exceptionally narrow (0.05 in / 0.1 cm) greenish-white margin. The margin frequently produces hairline streaks that extend into the leaf blade, often accompanied by a grayish overlay in the streaked areas, creating a distinctive, fractured appearance.
In the Garden
'Hairline Fracture' reaches a mature size of 28 in (71.1 cm) in height and 42 in (106.7 cm) in diameter, with an upright, medium-fast growth habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, where its blue-green foliage and fine variegation hold color well. Its large size and upright form make it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of shaded borders, paired with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the broad leaves are susceptible to damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
