Overview

Registered in 1988 by E. Smith and the British Hosta and Hemerocallis Society, 'Hadspen Hawk' is a small blue-green hosta derived from the *Hosta* Tardiana Group. Its leaves are distinguished by blue margins and a compact, rounded habit, reaching 8.5 inches (21.6 cm) in height and 13 inches (33.0 cm) in diameter.

In the Garden

This cultivar is suited to partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage retains color best. Mature plants form a dense clump of 4.5-inch (11.4 cm) long leaves with 9 vein pairs, making it appropriate for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as edging. Its small size also suits container cultivation. Companion plants include ferns, *Heuchera*, or other small hostas with contrasting leaf shapes or colors.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. 'Hadspen Hawk' is moderately resistant to slugs and deer, though monitoring is advisable in damp conditions.
