Overview

Registered in 2014 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Gwendlyn' is a small, slow-growing cultivar distinguished by its asymmetrical leaf blades, which impart a feathered appearance. The medium green leaves are edged with golden yellow, slightly rippled margins, and the mound-like plant reaches 20 inches (50.8 cm) in both height and diameter.

In the Garden

'Gwendlyn' performs best in partial to dappled shade, consistent with most hostas, and its compact size makes it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. The 7-inch-long, lance-shaped leaves with tapered bases and 8 vein pairs create a fine-textured mound that pairs well with small ferns, heucheras, or spring bulbs. Its slow growth rate and small stature also make it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitor regularly and employ barriers or repellents as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
