Overview

Registered in 2008, 'Gullivar' is a giant hosta cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *Hosta* 'Sagae' as the pod parent. It forms a very large, upright clump with broadly ovate, corrugated leaves that have medium green margins and a very shiny upper surface, contrasting with a dull underside.

In the Garden

'Gullivar' reaches a mature diameter of 70 inches (178 cm) and a height of 35 inches (89 cm), with an upright growth habit and fast growth rate. Its substantial size and bold, corrugated foliage make it suitable as a specimen plant or as a backdrop in a mixed border. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with other large perennials such as ferns or astilbes.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. 'Gullivar' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
