Overview
Registered in 2010 by M. Zilis, *Hosta* 'Groo Bloo' is a giant-sized cultivar derived from open-pollinated *Hosta* 'Elegans'. It is visually distinctive for its intensely corrugated, broadly ovate leaves with cordate bases, which display a medium blue-green color and a glaucous bloom on both surfaces; the leaf margins are flat, while the blade itself is moderately wavy and twisted.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching approximately 92 inches (234 cm) in diameter and 26 inches (66 cm) in height, with a slow growth rate. It is best suited to partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, and performs well in rich, well-drained soil. Its substantial size makes it an effective specimen or groundcover in woodland gardens and large borders; it is not recommended for container cultivation due to its giant dimensions.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
