Overview

Registered in 2012 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Special Blend', 'Grey Glacier' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with creamy white margins and a pronounced glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The leaf blades are ovate with cordate bases, measuring 8.6 inches (21.8 cm) long and 6.6 inches (16.8 cm) wide, with 8 vein pairs and flat, creamy white margins 0.25 to 0.375 inches (0.6 to 1.0 cm) wide.

In the Garden

'Grey Glacier' forms a mound-like clump reaching 16.6 inches (42.2 cm) in height and 34.4 inches (87.4 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage and white margins remain most stable. The green scapes rise 22.6 to 31.1 inches (57.4 to 79.0 cm) above the foliage. This cultivar pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials in woodland borders or shaded beds.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Grey Glacier' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
