Overview

Registered in 1983 by K. Hensen, *Hosta* 'Grey Beauty' is a large-sized variegated cultivar of unknown parentage. It is distinguished by its cordate leaves with greenish gray margins and a broad central area of lighter coloration, creating a subdued two-tone effect.

In the Garden

'Grey Beauty' reaches a mature height of 24 inches (61.0 cm) with scapes up to 20 inches (50.8 cm). This large hosta is best suited to partial to full shade, where its gray-toned variegation remains most pronounced. It pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials, and its substantial leaf size makes it effective as a ground cover or specimen in shaded borders.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Grey Beauty' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
