Overview
Registered in 1998 by P. Ruh, this cultivar originated as a sport of *Hosta* 'Starker Yellow Leaf'. 'Green Spot' is distinguished by its large, heavily rippled leaves with a very shiny surface on both sides, a cordate base, and variegated coloration.
In the Garden
This large hosta reaches a mature diameter of 34 inches (86.4 cm) and a height of 21 inches (53.3 cm), with an upright growth habit and slow growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade locations in typical hosta-growing zones, where its glossy foliage provides textural contrast. The substantial leaf size makes it an effective specimen or accent plant in shaded borders, and it pairs well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar may require protection from slugs and deer in garden settings.
