Overview
Registered in 2010 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Sparkler', 'Green Sparkler' forms a small, dense mound of shiny, dark green foliage with flat margins, distinguishing it from its parent by lacking the white variegation. The leaves are ovate with rounded bases and moderately wavy edges, measuring 8 inches long and 5 inches wide, with 8 to 9 vein pairs; the upper surface is very shiny, the underside slightly so.
In the Garden
This medium-sized cultivar reaches 10 inches in height and spreads to 28 inches in diameter, with a moderate growth rate and a tidy, mound-like habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its compact size makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or woodland edges. The dark green foliage provides a strong textural contrast when paired with finer-leaved perennials or golden-foliage plants.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, especially in warmer exposures, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in garden settings.
