Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Blue Skies' registered in 2009 by K. Walek, 'Green Skies' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its variegated foliage: broadly ovate, lightly cupped leaves with green flat margins and a dull surface on both sides. The leaf blade measures 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) in length and 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) in width, with 10 to 11 pairs of veins and a cordate base.
In the Garden
'Green Skies' reaches a mature diameter of 40 inches (101.6 cm) and a height of 14 inches (35.6 cm), forming a dense, mound-like habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its small stature makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Companion plants include ferns, heucheras, and other small hostas with contrasting foliage colors.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaf substance offers some resistance to slugs, though monitoring is recommended in damp conditions; deer may browse the foliage.
