Overview
Registered in 1978 by P. Aden, 'Green Sheen' is a giant variegated hosta resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Green Wedge' and *H.* 'Chartreuse Wedge'. Its most distinctive feature is the waxy sheen on the upper leaf surface, combined with intense green margins that contrast with the lighter leaf center.
In the Garden
'Green Sheen' forms a substantial clump reaching 36 inches (91.4 cm) in height and 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter, with leaves 18 inches (45.7 cm) long and 12 inches (30.5 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its glossy foliage can be appreciated without scorching. The large scale makes it suitable as a specimen plant or as a background element in shaded borders, paired with ferns or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates. As with most large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents. Fertilize lightly in early spring as new growth emerges.
