Overview

Registered in 1977 by L. Powell, this large cultivar resulted from crossing *Hosta* 'Elegans' (pod parent) with *Hosta* 'Frances Williams' (pollen parent). 'Green Saucers' is visually distinctive for its substantial, broadly oval leaves with medium green margins and a contrasting lighter center, borne on plants reaching 36 inches (91.4 cm) in both height and diameter.

In the Garden

'Green Saucers' performs best in partial to full shade, where its large leaves develop their characteristic coloration. Mature plants form a substantial clump approximately 3 feet (91 cm) tall and wide, making this cultivar suitable as a specimen or for the middle to back of a shaded border. It pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that appreciate similar growing conditions.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Green Saucers' may be susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing in typical hosta-growing zones.
