Overview
Registered in 1997 by P. Ruh, 'Green Platter' is a large, mound-forming hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its very shiny, medium green leaves with slightly rippled margins, a rounded base, and 11 vein pairs, reaching 9.75 inches (24.8 cm) in length and 7.5 inches (19.1 cm) in width.
In the Garden
'Green Platter' forms a dense, moderate-growing mound 18 inches (45.7 cm) tall and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border or as a specimen in partial to full shade. Its large, glossy leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast in texture or color. The plant's substantial size and uniform habit also work effectively as a groundcover in shaded areas.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Green Platter' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in typical hosta-growing zones.
