Overview
Registered in 1993 by R. O'Harra and introduced by F. Riehl, this large hosta cultivar is visually distinctive for its dark green leaves with broad, heavily rippled margins of light green. The leaves measure 12 inches (30.5 cm) long by 7.5 inches (19.1 cm) wide, with 10 to 14 pairs of veins and a cordate base, displaying a slightly shiny surface on both top and underside.
In the Garden
'Hosta 'Green Lantern' forms a substantial clump reaching 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, making it suitable as a specimen or accent in shaded borders and woodland gardens. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its variegated foliage contrasts well with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*. Its large size precludes use in most containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
