Overview
Registered in 2005, *Hosta* 'Green Jeans' is a medium-sized variegated cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. ventricosa* 'Aureomarginata' (pod parent) and *H. yingeri* (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its broadly ovate leaves with dark green flat margins, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a very shiny underside, combined with a lightly cupped and lightly corrugated texture.
In the Garden
'Green Jeans' forms a moderate-growing, upright clump reaching approximately 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds. Companion plants include ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Green Jeans' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed.
