Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'Gay Feather' registered in 2009 by K. Walek, 'Green Feather' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its variegated foliage: dark green margins frame a lighter center, with a glossy upper surface. The leaves reach 20.3 cm (8 in) in length and 8.9 cm (3.5 in) in width, bearing eight pairs of veins.

In the Garden

This compact hosta matures into a low, dense mound, suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of the genus, and pairs well with other small shade perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or woodland groundcovers. Its small stature makes it an excellent choice for troughs or small pots.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
